Catholic marriage law causes problems for many a church worker, because married people can’t just change their partner. For the Catholic church, marriage is indissoluble, so, in order for the church to uphold this law and at the same time not clash with people who want to remarry, there is the “marriage annulment declaration”, which - even many years after the wedding - declares that a marriage was never realized. One way to avoid the problem of divorce. Freiburg scholars of ecclesiastical law are researching into this area.
